Sigma 100-400mm F/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Zoom Lens

Sigma has announced a trio of new Art lenses, but there is also a new entry into the company’s Contemporary lens category. This long telephoto zoom lens offer lots of focal length in a relatively small package.


The 100-400mm F/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Zoom Lens offers great IQ and usability with its lightweight, compact, dust and splash proof design. The lens is equipped with the newly released Sigma OS and AF; it provides exceptional performance at lower shutter speed. The highly versatile lens also features a Sigma’s unique macro function (1:3.8 ratio) for perfecting close-ups and distance shots, and push / pull zooming for ease of use.

In addition to its normal zoom ring, for changing focal length. The lens combines high performance with a compact body and suits pros and amateurs alike.  The new telephoto lens is comes with all functions expected of an ultra-telephoto zoom: optical stabilizer OS, hypersonic motor HSM with updated algorithm for fast autofocus, focus limiter and all the customizable with the optional Sigma USB dock.

As far as the optics concerned, the lens consists of 21 elements in 15 groups and includes four SLD glass elements along with an optimized power distribution to help minimize optical aberrations. The minimum shooting distance is 160 cm with a maximum magnification ratio. The Contemporary lens has 9 diaphragm blades and a rounded diaphragm. The lens is not weatherproof, which somehow disappointed, the mount lens includes rubber sealing. The Nikon mount version of this lens includes an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism that allows it to receive the appropriate signals from the camera body. This feature ensures precision diaphragm control and stable Auto Exposure (AE) performance during continuous shooting.

The Contemporary telephoto lens comes with a supports of Canon, Nikon and Sigma mounts and works with Sigma’s MC-11 Sony E-mount converter. The lens measures at 86.4 × 182.3 mm and weighing at 1,160 grams. The pricing and availability details will announce later.
